Nurse licensing in the UAE
The UAE does not issue one nursing licence. Three authorities license nurses, they publish their own requirements, and the one you need depends on where you will actually work.

Which authority licenses you
This is the first thing to get right, because it decides every requirement that follows.
Dubai — Dubai Health Authority (DHA)
Licenses healthcare professionals working in Dubai, outside the free zones that run their own regulator. DHA publishes its requirements in the Professional Qualification Requirements, which sets the qualification and experience conditions for each nursing title.
Abu Dhabi — Department of Health (DOH)
Licenses healthcare professionals working in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, including Al Ain and Al Dhafra. It sets its own conditions and its own process.
The northern emirates — MOHAP
The Ministry of Health and Prevention licenses federally, covering Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.
A licence from one of them is not automatically a licence to work under another. If you have an offer in Sharjah, a Dubai licence does not cover you, and the reverse is equally true. Decide where the job is before you spend anything on verification.
Medverik currently checks the Dubai Health Authority route for nurses. We have not established the Abu Dhabi DOH or MOHAP nursing requirements from those authorities’ own published material to the standard we require before making a claim about them, so we do not publish requirements pages for either. We would rather tell you that than give you something that reads like an answer.
What every UAE nursing application turns on
The authorities differ in detail. These are the areas that decide most applications wherever you apply.
The title you apply under
Registered Nurse, Assistant Nurse, Registered Midwife and the specialty titles are separate categories with different qualification requirements. Applying under the wrong one is one of the more expensive mistakes available, because the fee and the verification are already spent by the time it is corrected.
The qualification itself
Course length, award level and mode of study all matter. A qualification obtained by correspondence or distance learning is a common and avoidable disqualifier.
Registration where you qualified
You are generally expected to hold a licence or council registration in your home country, and to evidence that it is current and unrestricted.
Continuity of practice
A break in clinical practice is assessed, and long breaks carry conditions or a hard limit. This is the single most under-anticipated part of a UAE application.
Good Standing
A certificate from your regulator, and it has a short shelf life. Requesting it too early is a routine reason applications stall.

Common questions
Can I use a Dubai nursing licence to work in Abu Dhabi?
Not automatically. The emirates license separately, and moving between them means dealing with the authority that covers your new workplace. Confirm what your specific move requires with the authority you are moving to before you resign anything.
Which UAE authority should I apply to?
The one that regulates the place you will physically work. That is decided by your employer and your job offer, not by preference, so it is worth confirming the exact emirate and whether the facility sits inside a free zone with its own regulator before you begin.
Do I need a UAE job offer before I can be licensed?
The authorities run assessment and verification steps that can be started before employment is finalised, and the licence itself is tied to where you practise. Because the sequence differs by authority and by your circumstances, confirm the order with the authority rather than assuming the one a recruiter describes.
