Nurse licensing in Oman

Oman sets its nursing experience requirement by the qualification you hold — a diploma needs more years than a degree. It is one of the few places where that trade is stated plainly.

How the route works

  1. Health Practitioners Registration

A free registration service covering medical, nursing, pharmacy and allied health, for those seeking to work in government and private healthcare institutions. It asks for your basic and specialisation qualifications, transcripts, experience certificates and previous registration or medical licence.

  2. Application through the Ministry portal

    Submitted with the appointment documents.

  3. Interview and viva examination

An interview appointment and a date for a viva examination are scheduled as part of the private-sector appointment procedure. This is a spoken assessment, not a paper one.

This page covers the private-sector route. Government-sector appointments run through a different procedure.

Qualification and experience

A nursing degree — diploma, bachelor or equivalent — is required, together with the nursing mark sheet and the higher secondary school certificate. Which experience minimum you have to meet turns on which of those you hold.

Diploma holders

An experience certificate covering a minimum of four years.

Bachelor holders

A minimum of three years.

What experience means

The period acquired by the practitioner consistent with their specialty in an accredited health institution. The general definition sets no minimum period of its own — the four- and three-year figures come from the nursing procedure.

Free, and it applies the right experience minimum for the qualification you actually hold.

Documents to prepare

  • Nursing degree and mark sheet

The transcript is required alongside the award.

  • Higher secondary school certificate

Part of the appointment document list, not an optional extra.

  • Certificate validation report

A verification report on your credentials.

  • Examination result

The Pearson VUE test, or another test approved by the concerned authority, is required among the appointment documents.

  • Experience certificate

Covering the minimum period for your qualification.

  • Police Clearance Certificate

Required in the appointment document list.

  • Passport copy and CV

Together with a letter from the employing clinic requesting country entry.

  • Translations

Any document in a language other than Arabic or English must be translated.

Nursing registration from a professional council appears in the document list as optional. Where you hold one, supply it — an optional document that supports your file is still worth including.

Where Oman applications commonly go wrong

Assuming the shorter experience requirement applies

Three years is the minimum for a bachelor holder and four for a diploma holder. Applicants who read the lower figure and hold the other qualification discover the mismatch after the file is assembled, which is the expensive point to discover it.

Treating registration as the licence

Health Practitioners Registration is a free service and a separate step from the appointment procedure. Completing it does not mean you are licensed, and it does not replace the portal application, the interview or the viva.

Working from an older version of the nursing procedure

An earlier version of the procedure set a pass grade for the examination; the current one states none. Details of this kind change between versions without announcement, so confirm the current position with the Ministry rather than with a copy of the procedure someone shared.

Not having an employer yet

A letter from the employing clinic requesting country entry sits on the appointment document list. That part of the pack cannot be assembled alone, so the offer has to come before the file is complete.

Leaving the Police Clearance Certificate late

It is on the list, and it has its own lead time in whichever country you have lived in. It is one of the few documents where starting early costs nothing.

Untranslated documents

Anything not in Arabic or English has to be translated. Applicants tend to translate the degree and forget the mark sheet or the experience certificates.

What Medverik can and cannot tell you

We can tell you which of the published Oman requirements your circumstances appear to meet — which experience minimum applies to your qualification, what the document list asks of you, and where your evidence does not yet reach — with each requirement traced in the paid report to the material that establishes it.

We cannot license you, we are not affiliated with the Ministry of Health, and we do not sit on the interview panel. Oman settles part of what applies to you during the appointment procedure itself rather than publishing it in advance, and where that is the case we say so rather than inventing a threshold.

Common questions

How many years of experience does Oman require from a nurse?

A minimum of four years for a diploma holder and a minimum of three years for a bachelor holder, under the current nursing procedure for private-sector appointment.

Which examination does Oman require for nurses?

The Pearson VUE test, or another test approved by the concerned authority, is required among the appointment documents. There is also an interview and a viva examination scheduled as part of the appointment procedure.

Is there a pass mark published for the Oman nursing examination?

The current version of the nursing procedure states no pass grade, where an earlier version had set one. Because that is exactly the kind of detail that changes without notice, confirm the current position with the Ministry before you book.

Do I need my school certificate for an Oman nursing licence?

Yes. The higher secondary school certificate is on the appointment document list alongside the nursing degree and mark sheet.
