Qatar DHP nurse licensing requirements
Qatar examines early. The qualifying examination sits at the evaluation stage rather than at the end, which changes how you should sequence everything else.

How the route works
Evaluation
Your qualifications are assessed against the scope you are applying for. Nurses are among the scopes mandated to sit the qualifying examination at this stage.
Primary source verification
Documents are verified with the bodies that issued them. Good standing is now established through this route.
Licensing
The licence follows a successful evaluation and verification.
The preliminary evaluation issued after a successful evaluation application is valid for six months. That is a short window, and it is the reason to have your documents assembled before you begin rather than after.
Qualification
The Registered General Nurse scope requires a bachelor’s degree in nursing of four years, or a diploma in nursing of three years following twelve years of general education, or an associate degree where you are licensed in the country of qualification.
Note what the diploma route depends on: twelve years of general education beneath it. That is a condition about your schooling rather than your nursing programme, and it is the part applicants tend not to check.
The qualifying examination
It is mandatory, and it is early
Practitioners under the listed scopes are required to sit the qualifying examination at the evaluation stage. Registered General Nurse and Registered Midwife are both listed scopes.
A result lasts three years
Validity is set at three years, so passing well before you are ready to move is not wasted — but it does expire.
Attempts are capped
Five attempts in a given scope.

Good standing, immunity and life support
Certificate of Good Standing
All applicants requesting a licence must provide a valid certificate not more than six months old. Certificates are treated as valid for six months.
Good standing is verified, not posted
Certificates sent to the good-standing email address or PO Box are no longer accepted. Good standing is established through primary source verification. If your regulator offers to post one, that route no longer arrives anywhere useful.
Evidence of immunity
Practitioners applying for a licence for the first time are required to provide documented evidence of immunity to measles and rubella, or to measles, mumps and rubella. Serology takes time to arrange — this is worth starting early rather than discovering late.
Life support certification
A life-support certificate is required from a provider that is a member of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation, matching your profession and scope. A certificate from a non-member provider does not meet it.
A break in practice
Qatar’s break-in-practice policy applies to overseas nurses and midwives among others. A break of under two years requires nothing further. Two to under four years requires three months of supervised practice, and the requirement escalates from there.
Supervised practice has to be arranged, which means the two-year mark is worth planning around rather than discovering at evaluation.
Common questions
Do all nurses have to sit the Qatar qualifying examination?
Registered General Nurse and Registered Midwife are listed scopes, and practitioners under the listed scopes are mandated to sit the qualifying examination at the evaluation stage. A result is valid for three years, with a maximum of five attempts in a scope.
Can I send my Good Standing Certificate to DHP by email?
No. Acceptance of certificates sent to the good-standing email address or PO Box has been discontinued, and good standing is now established through primary source verification instead.
What vaccinations does Qatar require for a first licence?
Practitioners applying for a licence for the first time must provide documented evidence of immunity to measles and rubella, or to measles, mumps and rubella.
How long is the Qatar preliminary evaluation valid?
Six months. Because the rest of the process has to fit inside that, assemble your documents before you apply rather than afterwards.
Is a three-year nursing diploma accepted in Qatar?
A diploma in nursing of three years is accepted for the Registered General Nurse scope where it follows twelve years of general education. The schooling requirement beneath the diploma is part of the condition, not an aside.
